Almost three years
since I have been living in Delhi. Delhi, my romance since childhood for I
lived here in the stories narrated by my father. My father lived here till he
was five, but had to turn back again to my hometown during the severe riots
happened in 1947. My grandfather somehow managed to reach railway station with
the help of a Hindu constable who put his own life to stake to protect my
grandfather and his family. Anyway, many times when I visited Jama Masjid, this
one place always caught my eyes. I never tried to look over due to many
reasons. This is not the first time when I
am visiting this place. This is the first time I
am visiting it alone without any interruption or any hindrance made by
friends. So, this is the place, mausoleum of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, personality
which needs no formal introduction. Anyone having a slight acquaintance with
the history and eminent personalities of India would know the majestic personality
of Maulna Abul Kalam Azad. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a freedom fighter, a
congressman, a prominent scholar of Islam and a less known romantic who
expressed his romanticism through his poetry, was one of the most influential people of India of pre/post Independence era.
Stairs leading upward to the platform |
The architecture
of the platform, where Maulana Azad’s grave lies, is somehow uneven. It is
about 5-6 feet above from the level of Meena Bazar facing Jama Masjid’s front
gate. This small staircase leads to the platform where the grave is located.
The place is looks beautiful with ample amount of greenery and three huge water
basins (though the basins were empty).
Mausoleum of Maulana Azad |
The grave of
Mualana Azad is covered under this beautiful four faceted structure that
looks very close to the shape of Mehrab. The mausoleum is located in the
upright corner of the platform.
Grave of Maualana Azad |
The grave is built
with the fine white marble. Maulana’s name, date of birth and date of demise is scribbled on the foot side of the grave. Maulana’s name in English and Hindi is written
with black paint in large letters on both the lateral sides of the grave.
The upper side of grave is left hollow with mud stuffed in it. It looks more pleasant to the eyes due to the erected grass upside.
Basin on the right side of the grave |
One of the three
water basins located on the right side of the mausoleum. It looks a bit
unpleasant when you see garbage inside the basin.
Though, the place is quite beautiful and manages to match the level of a personality like Maulana's but, it needs a better care on routine basis the maintain the beauty of the place. Outsiders and locals used to visit there and pollute the place with scrap material. This needs to be taken care of.

If it is not clean do you clean it yourself , at least then it was clean for once. and then may you could given a tiny job of cleaning to a local kid to do it . He would have been happy to make a bakaroo. I am sure you could have cut cost some where , may be in your food bill, and you could look artistic too, like your dream ladies that you publish. The human body is the best art that the creator has created and look how we deform into with bulging waste lines that is prominently seen in a young man like you. May be by just taking an hour a day yourself to upkeep the place and do some open air excercise , you could sculpt your body than what it is now.
